Eldon Cernik

Eldon Cernik of Troy died Monday morning, March 1, 2010 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston. He was 85.

Eldon was born September 10, 1924 at Ord, Nebraska to Joe and Phyllis Lukesh Cernik. He grew up and went to school there, graduating from Ord High School. He joined the US Army, and served in Germany in the occupation Army at the end of WWII. Before he was deployed, he and Esther L. Taylor were married on September 25, 1946.

Eldon later graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Business Administration. He owned and operated businesses and retired from his garage door business. He and Mrs. Cernik moved to this area in 2000 to be near their son and family. Mrs. Cernik died in December of 2004, and Eldon had been a resident of the Veterans Home since 2005.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shawn Cernik of Troy and Rick and Wendy Cernik of Arvada, Colorado as well as seven grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Frank in Kearny, Nebraska and a sister, Edith John in Lincoln, Nebraska.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Burial will follow at Burnt Ridge Cemetery at Troy.
