Loretta Marie Louis Wolf, 98, died June 28, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village in Moscow, Idaho. Loretta had resided there for the past nine years.
She was born March 25, 1912 in Uniontown, WA to Michael Louis and Mary Dahm Louis.
When Loretta was five, the family moved to a homestead on the Colville Indian Reservation in Okanogan County, WA. During the school year, she and her brothers lived in Uniontown with their aunts, Louise and Rose Dahm. She graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1930.
After graduation from Central Washington Teacher’s College in Ellensburg, Loretta returned to Okanogan to help her parents on the homestead. She then taught in a number of elementary schools in North Central Washington and Spokane. She married Clifford Wolf, a classmate since fourth grade, on December 30, 1946. They owned and operated a farm in the Thorncreek area for 55 years.
Loretta was a dedicated and hardworking farm wife and mother, cooking, baking, and maintaining the family home and yard. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Ursuline Auxillary. She was also a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church at Uniontown.
An avid student of northwest history, Loretta collected books on that subject. She was a member of the Washington State and Latah County Historical Societies and had an extensive knowledge of Uniontown history. She was often called upon to help students, including her grandchildren, in their study of history.
Loretta developed an extensive collection of family genealogy. She also enjoyed playing the piano, reading poetry and working outdoors in her garden. She had a special fondness for the family pets.
Loretta is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Mary Kay and Johnny Law of Culdesac, Janet and Seiichi Murai of Thorncreek, and Christine and David Rudeen of Boise; five grandchildren Karen Shawley and husband, Courtney, Uniontown, Jeffrey Law and wife, Irene Ng, Portland, Kentaro Murai, Moscow, Douglas Rudeen, Seattle, Kimberly Rudeen, Boise; one great grandchild, Alexander Shawley, of Uniontown; sister-in-law, Evangeline Bauer of Newport, Oregon and 11 nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and two sets of twin brothers, Joseph, Edward, Richard, and Leonard.
A rosary will be recited at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 7:30 PM.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Boniface Church in Uniontown on Friday at 11:00 AM with internment to follow at the Uniontown Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be at the Uniontown Community Building following the graveside service.
